Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said nearly one crore more people will pay no tax after she announced zero tax for those earning up to ₹12 lakh annually in the Union Budget 2025-26. "The government feels that if someone earns ₹1 lakh per month on average, they should not have to pay tax," she added.
