10,500-year-old wood may rewrite history of early homes: Report

Archaeologists have discovered remarkably preserved worked wood dating back 10,500 years beneath Germany’s Lake Arendsee. The remains may belong to Mesolithic structures, potentially pushing evidence of substantial settlement and landscape modification in Central Europe back by around 3,000 years. Researchers caution that the wood has not yet been proven to come from permanent homes.
