The Pune forest department arrested 11 individuals and seized over 400 kg of peacock feathers in a crackdown on illegal wildlife trade. According to a forest official, possessing peacock feathers in such quantity is a "serious offence" as the peacock is India’s national bird, protected under the Wildlife Protection Act. RFO Manoj Barbole noted the growing demand for peacock feathers.
