12.5 trillion tons of ice melted since 1979, raising sea levels by an inch: Study

A study published in Scientific Data journal found that about 12.5 trillion tons of ice from glaciers globally and Antarctica has melted since 1979. The melted ice produced nearly 3 quadrillion gallons (11.3 quadrillion litres) of water, raising global sea levels by about an inch (3.1 centimetres). The study's authors said this is bad news for future sea-level rise.
