A total of 12 people have walked on the moon till date, two each on NASA's six different Apollo missions. American astronaut Neil Armstrong, a part of the Apollo 11 crew, was the first human to leave his footprints on the moon on July 21, 1969. The last Apollo mission to land humans on the moon was in 1972.
