125 ponds with thousands of tonnes of banned catfish found in Maharashtra

A survey by government agencies found over 125 artificial ponds in rural Thane illegally breeding thousands of tonnes of banned catfish Thai Mangur. It's reared due to its high demand locally as it is cheaper than other fishes. Thai Mangur was banned by NGT in 2000 as they destroyed the local ecosystem and were also considered harmful for human consumption.
