13-year-old girl becomes first female heir in centuries-old custom in Rajasthan

Thirteen-year-old Tejaswi Kumari Jodha became inheritor of the legacy of Kherwagarh in Rajasthan's Pali district. She was formally invested with the turban of the former royal family of Kherwagarh after her father's death. In the centuries-old 'Paag Ka Dastoor' custom, for the first time a girl was recognised as successor, a role that had always been reserved for male heirs.
