The 23-member strong World Cup-winning French football team has 15 players of African descent, including the likes of Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappé and N'Golo Kanté. Semifinalists England fielded a team including 11 players of African and Caribbean descent, a line-up that coach Gareth Southgate said "represents modern England". The 2018 edition is being called the most diverse in history.
