In the Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced basic customs duty exemption for 17 drugs or medicines used in cancer treatment. Sitharaman extended import duty exemptions to seven more rare diseases for personally imported medicines, drugs and specialised medical food. The move is aimed at improving access to life-saving therapies.
