18-year-old boy discovers 3 unusual galaxies

An 18-year-old student from New York, Julian Shapiro, discovered three unusual dwarf galaxies while still in high school. The galaxies, named Shapiro I, II and III, appear isolated despite having stopped forming stars. His research, published in The Astrophysical Journal, suggests they may have lost star-forming gas while passing near a larger galaxy.
