180-million-year-old fossilised microbes discovered in Morocco

Scientists have discovered 180-million-year-old fossilised microbial wrinkle structures in Morocco's Central High Atlas Mountains. The fossils likely belonged to chemosynthetic microbes that survived without sunlight by using chemical energy. These organisms might have lived off of sulphur or other compounds. The discovery suggests early microbial life thrived in deeper oceans.
