The RBI slapped a penalty totalling Rs 49.5-crore on 22 banks including SBI, PNB, Canara Bank and Yes Bank for violating know your customer/anti-money laundering norms. Moreover, the RBI also warned seven more banks including Citibank and Stanchart. The RBI action was taken after an investigation committee, formed after Cobrapost expose, carried out a scrutiny of those banks.
