The 1971 war hero, Lieutenant General (retd) JFR Jacob (92), who negotiated the 'Instrument of Surrender' with the Pakistan army at the end of the war, passed away on Wednesday. Then a Major General, he served as the Chief of Staff of the Eastern Command during the war. After retirement, he served as the Governor of Goa and Punjab.
