A 1972 study by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which said that "the human society is on the verge of collapsing in the next two decades" may become a reality, new research has said. The research says the current business-as-usual trajectory of civilisation is heading towards a terminal decline of economic growth and could trigger societal collapse by around 2040.
