For the first time, scientists through satellite observations of the ozone hole have shown that levels of ozone-destroying chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are declining. The international ban on the chemicals has resulted in about 20% less ozone depletion during the Antarctic winter compared to 2005. Ozone layer absorbs potentially harmful ultraviolet radiation from the Sun that can cause skin cancer.
