Warwick University astronomers have observed the first-ever evidence of white dwarf stars solidifying to crystals. Observations revealed white dwarfs have solid oxygen and carbon cores due to a phase transition during their lifecycle similar to water turning into ice but at much higher temperatures. The Sun itself will become a crystal white dwarf in about 10 billion years, astronomers claimed.
