The first successful liver transplant in a govt hospital in Karnataka was performed on Friday at Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana hospital in Bengaluru. The liver of a brain-dead patient was transplanted to a 37-year-old person. Private hospitals charge around Rs 20 lakh for a liver transplant, whereas the patient was charged Rs 2.5 lakh with the doctors contributing the rest.
