With representatives of 51 countries including India, the United Nations General Assembly met for the first time on January 10, 1946, in London. The United Nations was formed after the World War II to stop wars and promote international peace. With 193 members currently, the General Assembly is the main deliberating and policy-making organ of the United Nations.
