A US woman who noticed two black lines on her right hand's thumb was diagnosed with stage zero melanoma. "The melanoma was in the growth plate [in my thumb]," she said. "I will never have a thumbnail ever again but if I had let it go, I might have lost the tip of my thumb or worse," she added.
