20% tariff removal on US apples to have no impact on farmers: Govt

Removal of 20% retaliatory customs duty on imported American apples will have "zero" impact on Indian farmers, Commerce Department's Additional Secretary Peeyush Kumar said. MIP of ₹50 per kg and MFN duty (50%) are still applicable on imported US apples, he noted. Earlier, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh had questioned whether PM Narendra Modi cares for apple growers of Himachal Pradesh.
