Archaeologists in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii have found a 2,000-year-old still-life painting which has a dish resembling pizza. The flatbread in the painting "may be a distant ancestor of the modern dish", Italy's culture ministry said. However, some experts noted that key ingredients needed to make pizza, tomatoes and mozzarella, weren't available when the fresco was painted.
