2024 was hottest year ever and first to breach 1.5°C global warming limit: EU report

Last year (2024) was hottest year globally since records began in 1850 and the first calendar year to breach 1.5°C temperature limit sought by Paris climate agreement, a report by EU's earth-monitoring service Copernicus said. The global average surface air temperature in 2024 was 15.10°C, 0.12°C higher than previous hottest year 2023 and 0.72°C higher than 1991-2020 average, Copernicus found.
