The number of individuals earning an income of more than ₹1 crore rose to over 2.16 lakh in the assessment year 2023-24, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Parliament. This number stood at just 1.09 lakh in AY2019-20, showed data shared by him. Further, the number of individuals reporting income under 'Profession' category was 12,218 in AY2023-24.
