23-million-year-old fossil leaf discovered in Assam
Paleontologists from the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences have discovered a new fossil plant species, Tetrameristophyllum makumensis, in late Oligocene sediments of Assam's Makum Coalfield. Today, these plants are seen in Neotropical mangroves, South American savannahs, and Southeast Asian peat swamps.
