Around 25% of India's monsoon rain that falls over the northwestern Ghats disappears before it reaches the ground, a study at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, has found. The actual amount of rain that disappears ranges from 4% to 61% between June and September. Researchers checked differences in raindrop molecules to measure how much rain vanishes midair.
