2.8 crore cases pending due to shortage of 5,000 judges: SC

As many as 2.8 crore cases are pending in district courts across the country due to a shortage of nearly 5,000 judicial officers, according to a Supreme Court report. Appointment of nearly 15,000 more judges would be required in next three years to overcome the situation, the report added. It further suggests appointing 50 judges per ten lakh people.
