A magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck 2 miles southeast of Compton, California, at a depth of 13.2 km, the USGS confirmed. Light shaking was felt in Downey, Long Beach, and Los Angeles. The quake occurred near the Newport-Inglewood fault. No injuries or damage were reported. It follows another magnitude 3 quake in the area two weeks prior.
