3 death row inmates sue Japan govt over 'cruel' executions by hanging

Three death row inmates in Japan have sued the government, seeking abolition of the "cruel" practice of execution by hanging, their lawyer said on Tuesday. The prisoners, who have sought financial compensation of ¥33 million (₹1.94 crore) for psychological distress, were sentenced to death in 2000. Death by hanging is the only form of capital punishment practised in Japan.
