short by Ishaan Mukherjee / on Sunday, 26 July, 2026
A nearly 300-year-old stepwell in Mutga village in Karnataka's Belagavi has been restored after remaining buried under garbage, sewage, rubble and silt for nearly 30 years. The restoration was led by the Belagavi-based Pyaas Foundation, with support from NSS volunteers and residents. Historians believe the stepwell dates back to the Adil Shahi dynasty or the early Maratha period.
