4,700 AI personas chatted with 25,000 dating app users in China without disclosure: Anthropic

A China-based studio ran over 20 dating apps populated by 4,700 AI personas that chatted with about 25,000 users without disclosing they were not human, Anthropic said in a report. There were roughly three AI personas for every real user, it added. The company said it disrupted the operation, which was one of several misuse cases detected since December 2025.
