50% rise in Indians killed due to passive smoking: Lancet

Second-hand smoke is becoming a major public health concern in India, with deaths linked to passive smoking rising by nearly 50% over three decades, according to new study published in The Lancet Public Health. The study estimates that 3,25,600 deaths in India were attributable to second-hand smoke in 2023, around 50% increase from 2,17,700 deaths in 1990.
