In Jan this year, the Ministry of Culture said in Parliament that 50 monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India have disappeared. 14 monuments fell prey to urbanization. Dams and reservoirs claimed 12. 24 have just vanished. ASI safeguards 3,693 monuments but only 248 of them are guarded due to financial limitations.
