A former New York Times journalist was shot dead and another injured by Russian forces in Ukraine, said Ukraine's police. The US journalist was identified as 51-year-old Brent Renaud. The New York Times while confirming Brent's death said, "Though he...contributed to The Times in the past (most recently in 2015) he wasn't on an assignment for...The Times in Ukraine."
