53 orangutans rescued amid West Kalimantan wildfires

Wildfires in Indonesia's West Kalimantan, worsened by El Niño, are destroying orangutan habitats. Since August, rescue teams from YIARI and local conservation agencies have saved 53 orangutans, many arriving injured or malnourished. Dense smog and shrinking forests hinder relocation efforts. Teams are using thermal drones to locate animals and battle flames through dense jungle.
