700 whales, dolphins killed in 1,000-year-old Viking tradition in Faroe Islands

More than 700 whales and dolphins were killed near Faroe Islands during the annual tradition called grindadrap or grind. The hunt is a 1,000-year-old Viking tradition in which pilot whales and dolphins are driven into shallow waters with boats. Valentina Crast, campaign director at global marine conservation organisation Sea Shepherd, urged European governments to call for a ban on it.
