The 72-hour fast, also known as 72-hour water fast, is slowly gaining popularity as a variation of intermittent fasting across the world. This fasting regimen involves abstaining from food and caloric beverages for 72 hours — but not more than twice a month. Doctors say it leads to calorie restriction and shifts the body from using glucose to fat metabolism.
