Around 77.6% of Earth's land has become permanently drier in the last three decades, according to a report from the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). Further, 4.3 million km² of humid lands have been transformed into drylands in the last three decades, it stated. The report added that 40% global arable land has now been affected by aridity.
