7-year jail term for selling tobacco to minors

Starting Friday, selling cigarettes or chewable tobacco products to minors is now punishable with up to seven years imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh. This is part of the new Juvenile Justice Act that came into effect on January 15. Previously, the same offence carried a penalty of ₹200 and jail term of up to three months.
