According to an estimate by the UN, at least 8.5 lakh refugees are expected to arrive on the shores of Europe till 2016, with 4 lakh people arriving this year alone. Most of the 3,66,000 refugees who have already arrived are from Syria, compelled by intensified fighting and worsening conditions in the camps due to funding shortfalls in aid programs.
