9% of Indians use public transport for work commutes
India’s first-ever household travel survey has revealed that only 9% of people primarily use public transport to commute to work, while 43% rely on two-wheelers. Just 3% use cars for their daily work commute. The findings of the National Household Travel Survey, conducted between July 2025 and June 2026, highlight the growing importance of buses for women in urban areas.
