A court in Maharashtra sentenced nine police personnel to life imprisonment for the custodial death of Begya Pawar in 2011. The court said the act committed by the nine men was "serious and brutal", noting that Pawar was taken into custody illegally and beaten, which caused him 44 injuries. Court also found them guilty of attempting to murder another man.
