A fountain in Spain spews pure liquid mercury

The Calder's Mercury Fountain, which was installed in 1937 in Barcelona, Spain, spews pure liquid mercury. It was built to recognise the mines in Almadén, which were earlier considered the world's greatest source of mercury. As later studies suggested the harmful effects of mercury, a pane of glass was installed around the fountain, to protect visitors from breathing in fumes.
