The Karnataka High Court said, "If the son remains a son, married or unmarried, a daughter shall remain a daughter, married or unmarried." It said this while striking down a Sainik Welfare Board guideline that disallowed married daughters from using dependent cards available to children of ex-defence personnel. "The act of marriage cannot...change the status of a daughter," said HC.
