The Maharashtra Forest Department has begun removing manmade bunds (embankments) that were blocking water flow to mangroves in Navi Mumbai. This will reportedly save around 3,000 mangroves. "Work at Kamothe was completed. At Kharghar, the periphery was cleared by an excavator, four staffers and four labourers, partially restoring tidal water flow. A large portion still remains," said an official.
