The 16th President of the United States Abraham Lincoln is the only US President to hold a patent. He obtained a patent in May 1849, for a device that intended to keep vessels afloat while passing over shallow waters. The invention was however never manufactured. Notably, Lincoln's 208th birth anniversary was observed on Sunday.
