AI agents can spread "mind viruses" through routine conversation, spreading harmful ideas across networks, according to researchers affiliated with Anthropic and EPFL. These self-propagating concepts persuade target agents to abandon primary tasks, store persistent files and infect other agents. Researchers found that a short warning in an agent's system prompt can stop the propagation.
