AI models 'months away' from self-replicating on home devices, claims Anthropic

Anthropic said small AI models could be "months away" from being capable of self-replicating on commercial internet-of-things devices, such as smart ovens and TV boxes. Models with fewer than 30 billion parameters can already perform many of the individual steps needed for replication, it said. Such models would be hard to shut down as there is no central switch-off point.
