AI now designing better AI, it could go out of control in a year: 'Godfather of AI' Hinton

Geoffrey Hinton, known as the 'Godfather of AI', has warned US lawmakers they may have "maybe a year, but not much more" to put safeguards around advanced AI. The Nobel laureate said AI is beginning to design better AI and could go "out of control" without action. He further compared July's autonomous-agent breach of Hugging Face to "a little Chernobyl".
