AIIMS Delhi has launched India’s first face transplant programme and is preparing to perform the country’s first such surgery this year. The world’s first partial face transplant was carried out in France in 2005, followed by first full face transplant in Spain in 2010. Currently, the procedure is available only at select hospitals in the US, France, Spain and Turkey.
