Air pollution linked to reducing rainfall in Mawsynram: Study

A new study found rising air pollution is reducing rainfall in Mawsynram, the world’s wettest place. Satellite data from 2014–2023 show aerosol levels rose 14.6% while annual rainfall fell nearly 14%. Researchers say pollution alters cloud formation, suppressing rainfall, especially in pre-monsoon and winter seasons.
